Managing Contacts

Organize and manage your Handrive contacts.

Viewing Contacts

Your contacts appear in the sidebar, each with their own section showing:

  • Their name (or email if no name set)
  • Their shares that you have access to
  • Online/offline indicator

Setting an Alias

Give a contact a custom display name:

  1. Find the contact in the sidebar
  2. Right-click (or use the menu)
  3. Select Edit Alias
  4. Enter your preferred name
  5. Click Save

Aliases are private to you. The contact won't see or be affected by your alias.

Viewing Contact's Shares

Click a contact's name in the sidebar to see:

  • All shares they've given you access to
  • Your role in each share
  • The share status (available/unavailable)

Removing a Contact

To remove someone from your contacts:

  1. Right-click the contact
  2. Select Remove or Delete Contact
  3. Confirm the removal

What happens when you remove a contact:

  • They disappear from your sidebar
  • Their shares no longer appear in your list
  • You lose access to view their shares
  • Your access to their shares remains (until they remove you)
  • They are NOT notified
tip

Removing a contact is like hiding them from view. To actually lose access to their shares, they need to remove you as a member.

Contact Status

See if a contact is online:

  • Online - They're currently using Handrive
  • Offline - They're not connected

Status helps you know if transfers will work immediately.

Re-adding a Contact

If you removed a contact by mistake:

  1. Click + NewNew Contact
  2. Enter their email again
  3. They're restored to your contacts

Their shares reappear automatically.

Contact Organization

Contacts are listed alphabetically by name. Tips for keeping organized:

  • Use aliases for consistent naming
  • Remove contacts you no longer collaborate with
  • Remember that contacts are just for discovery—permissions are managed per share
